But this one just might work, one day.
Back when I went to Mustang Memories, I asked my dad if there was any particular Stang he wanted me to take pictures of while I was there; he told me to find some Boss 302s. I was thinking to myself, out of all the Bullitts, SVTs, Boss 429s and Shelby's, you want me to take pictures of the 302?? He told me if there was one car he wanted back in the 70s that wasn't his 911, it was an Orange Boss 302.
And that got me thinking, again...When my dad was younger, his first car was a '59 Chevy Pushrod truck that he fixed himself and drove around for awhile. His dad told him if he could fix it, he could drive it. That being said, I had a glorious idea:
I'll go find a Fox Body roller car and make ourselves an orange Boss 302! He'd love that! It wouldn't be that hard to start either. Rollers can easily be had for $500 in decent shape with little rust, and we could work on it together and build our own 302 motor and it'd be just the most awesomesauce idea I've had since that 944! Father-Son bonding, building a car, driving said car, eating some 'Murican fast food, genius. :D
I shall call it, the Fox Boss 302!!
What say you Oppo? Ima gonna start saving up for a Fox Roller!

Good idea until you work on it and realize you hate on another and want no part of it.

Thanks! I'm not gonna do this now. But I'll start saving up and when I've got at least $1000, I'll start the search!

Sounds great! My dad worked rotating shifts when I was a kid so he was usually either at work or sleeping when I was home. The times we spent working on various cars or trucks were some of the best times we had together. Neither of us have any real mechanical ability but it was still fun. Hell, it still is. He helps me out on my project Camaro all of the time. Sure, it's mostly so I'll get it out of his garage but it's still fun.

I'm not sure where to begin though. I think I should start from scratch and get a motor, but if I want to build it from the bottom up, I should start with just a block right?
I have very little mechanical inclination, but this is where I'll start!

Actually, I need help motor wise. But a roller would be nice, but I think you might be a bit too far away from me. :(
How does one start building a motor?

I would love to help motor wise. Yeah I am far away sadly but I don't mind answering questions.
Finding a block that is in good shape and cleaning it is where I would start. If you can find a running engine that would be even better. 302/5.0 are damn stout and you might be able to get away with a rering and new bearing rebuild if everything looks good internal.
If you have a local U Pull junkyard I would check there a 5.0 HO from a 5.0 mustang or Lincoln Mark VII would be the preferred one since it has a roller cam.
I will track down some good junkyard guides and engine rebuild how tos.
If you ever have questions shoot me a email @ t5killer95@gmail.com

My Fox Body friend said to go out and find an Explorer block because it'll get me the power I want(at least 300) with little work?
And to look at some local junkyards and Parts Galore to see what they've got. But I'm open to all ideas, because I am a noob.

Yeah the 5.0 Expos had GT40P heads, roller cam and if your going EFI a good intake manifold which is almost the same as the 5.0 Cobra intake.

I'm not entirely sure which route to go, EFI or Carbs, but I'd like to go whichever route is easiest.

I'd start with the car first so you have an idea of where the engine is going to go and so you have something to build toward. Get the rolling chassis up to snuff and then worry about an engine, but people do it the other way around all of the time so pick your poison.

I’m back to this thing again, because now I’m definitely serious about moving this idea forwards and such. And thanks to my increased knowledge on the subject, I think this should be more interesting. Can you still help me? I know exactly what I want to do now.

I still have your email. I shoot you one later this evening.
The general idea I’ve come up with is simple enough, I think.
Still not sure if I want to use Fox or SN95. At the same time, whether or not I should sell my current 220k block and put that money to a complete car needing restoration. Because if I stick with the current block, it will most likely be carbed, but I’d rather take the easy route and go with EFI. EFI I think is more expensive to build than carb last I checked and that’s my block in the road.
Find a complete non-running car and go from there.
I want a DD’able well balanced car that’s faster than the Focus ST. If I go by numbers, I would like to aim for 300hp/300lb-ft
Quiet as possible, “sleeper” almost. Make it quieter than stock if possible.
Once I figure out the first two bits, it should be easier to proceed from there.
